(She/Her/Hers) After teaching and learning abroad for 15 years, I enjoy teaching English to students here in Seattle. I speak Spanish, and some French and Japanese. Advocating for students, supporting families and continuing learning about cultures make my job interesting.

We can never truly know ourselves until we learn another language. In doing so we learn where we come from and new options of where we can go.

I am in my 27th year of teaching at MLK Jr. Elementary, formally Brighton where I teach 4th and 5th grades. My love for Science and Math allowed me to be on the John Muir Elementary Science team. I was also on Sharples Middle schools Computer/Math team where I learned BASIC and started writing computer programs. I was a MESA student (Mathematics, Engineering & Science Achievement) at Franklin H.S. in 1983 an 1984 and was a member of the F.H.S. Math Olympiad team.  These STEM clubs propelled me to pursue Electrical Engineering at Seattle University my freshman year with an academic/baseball scholarship. I worked as a Recreation Leader for Seattle Parks and Recreation from 1989 to 1996 at Van Asselt, Rainer Beach and Garfield Community Centers. I ended up graduating with a B.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington, where I minored in engineering. I earned my Teacher Certification from Pacific Oaks College in 1997 and was hired as a teacher with SSD.  I am a trained MESA/STEM teacher who loves to play golf with my 11 and 8 year old grandsons and 3 year old granddaughter.

Starting my second year at MLK and I am excited to continue moving and learning with all of you!
