About

We are One School and One Community. We value our partnership with our Head Start preschool and "Seed of Life" Center for Early Learning before and after school programs. We also share professional development activities so that all staff are working toward a common goal: to prepare children for college, trade schools, professional careers and life.

  • Family Engagement: Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, in partnership with our school’s PTSA, has designed an “Adult Family Members Pathway” project so families can understand what their children are learning in school and assist with homework. Events include Family Math Nights in which parents, guardians and caregivers learn to play the same math games their children play in school. Literacy Night supports "Readers and Writers Workshop" and "Steps to Respect Bully Prevention”.
  • The district is providing extra training for teachers to plan Math and ELA lessons together. Teachers at Martin Luther King set student growth goals and are evaluated by the principal on their goals for teaching and learning.
  • We partnering with "City Year" who provide a college student for additional support in each of our 3rd through 5th grade classrooms. They will work with kids in small group settings.

Our Mission

Every child achieving at high levels and every adult accountable for every child's success. Our school’s mission statement articulates the values and actions that we are committed to in service of students.
